Sydney By Day

The area of Sydney that we are in is very cosmopolitan. The buildings are very cool and some are a bit historic but they are mixed in with the new and modern skyscrapers. Throw in some great parks with historic monuments and fountains (some of which never seem to be working) and you've got Sydney. The mix of people is quite varied. While Rob and I are mixed on what the majority of people are (he's saying Asian, I'm saying Caucasian), it seems to be a good mix. We're staying near Chinatown, so that could be the Asian influence in our area.

It's just a really cute place, there are little bars and coffee shops and counter delis everywhere. So much to choose from, we weren't sure what to do first so we headed to QVB-Queen Victoria Building, a local mall, to get something to eat, look around, and get a sim card for Rob's cell phone so we'd be able to call home...my Mom had already left 1 msg. After we ate and got all of that settled we headed to Darling Harbour so we could call our parents and look around.

We ended up going to the Maritime Museum and a couple of touristy kitsch areas before walking back to the hotel to rest a bit more. There was a cool sculpture from the times of the Olympic Games in Sydney. They seem to like their random art around here.

We decided to go to dinner at the Sydney Tower. It's atop a Westfield (yup I forgot they're an Australian company and so their malls are here too) mall and it's a revolving restaurant. While the food was eh, and we got stuck behind a bunch of pushy Chinese tourists, the view was remarkable. We got some great pictures and got to see where we'd like to go the next day!

We walked back to our hotel, tried to blog...found out our connection didn't work, discussed getting a new room the next day, and crashed!
